The Leprosy Mission Trust India’s (TLMTI) Vocational Training Centre, in Champa, Chhattisgarh, conducts short-term community-based vocational training (CBVT) courses for people affected by leprosy and people with disability.
The goal of CBVT programme is to provide vocational training in typical community settings rather than in conventional school environment.
One such programme is being conducted in Jaimura village, in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, with the support of HDFC Bank and TLMTI’s CSOs for Resource Mobilisation, Empowerment, Advocacy, Training and Empowerment (CREATE) project. Community members are trained in seed processing, organic farming, food processing and tailoring.
After the training, TLMTI supports the trained community members in forming self-help groups (SHGs) and trains the SHG members in starting their own businesses. They are also given training in marketing their produces. So far, around 1,300 people are benefited by TLMTI’s CBVT programme in Chhattisgarh.
